Greece is moving to strengthen its position in the Mediterranean luxury tourism market with the launch of a €50 million mega-yacht marina in Corfu, a development aimed at attracting high-net-worth visitors and redefining the island’s role in elite travel.

The project will be developed by Lamda Development through its subsidiary Lamda Corfu Marina under a 40-year concession agreement with the Greek government. Located west of the island’s main cruise pier, the marina will feature around 410 berths for vessels up to 140 metres in length, alongside luxury hospitality facilities, commercial outlets, and a full-service maintenance zone.

The agreement includes an upfront payment of €9.7 million and annual operating fees over the life of the concession, bringing the total contract value to roughly €89 million. The investment is part of Greece’s broader effort to diversify its tourism economy by focusing on high-end maritime infrastructure and exclusive travel experiences, positioning Corfu alongside established luxury destinations such as Monaco and Dubrovnik.

Officials describe the project as central to the country’s strategy of extending the tourism season and increasing revenue per visitor. However, environmental groups have warned of potential ecological risks, calling for strict oversight to preserve Corfu’s coastal ecosystem. The government maintains that sustainability safeguards are built into the development framework.

When completed, the Corfu marina will significantly expand Greece’s capacity to host super-yachts and high-value travellers, reinforcing its status as a rising hub for luxury tourism in the Eastern Mediterranean.
