Aston Martin has unveiled an open-top version of its Valhalla hybrid supercar, promising the same 217mph maximum speed as the coupé while offering buyers a choice of removable roofs. Deliveries of the Valhalla Spider are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

The mid-engined model combines a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with three electric motors to produce 1,079PS and 1,100Nm of torque. Two motors drive the front axle, while another assists the engine at the rear. Aston Martin says the car can reach its maximum speed with the roof removed, making it the fastest open-cockpit production model in the company's history.

Buyers receive a removable fabric roof as standard, although that roof limits driving speed to 124mph when fitted. An optional carbon-fibre hard top permits the full maximum speed. Engineers have also reshaped the air intake behind the cockpit and introduced a wind deflector, alongside revised aerodynamics and stability controls. The project draws on expertise from Aston Martin's Formula One-linked technical division.

The Spider follows the coupé as Aston Martin seeks to strengthen its position among makers of low-volume, exceptionally powerful cars. Opening the cockpit without surrendering headline performance is central to its proposition, although weather protection and roof storage introduce compromises that fixed-roof buyers avoid. The model arrives as luxury manufacturers increasingly combine electric assistance with combustion engines rather than treating electrification solely as a route to entirely battery-powered vehicles. The coming deliveries will test the market for that combination. That positioning will depend on scarce manufacturing slots.
